Dictionary definition of stratagem: a plan or scheme, especially one used to outwit an opponent or achieve an end.
Means the same as, 'strategy'. The English language makes use of 'synonyms'. These are words that mean the same thing.
For example, in my Thingies thread I will have described myself as loving, adoring and worshiping the kids I come into contact with. The meaning of all these adjectives is the same in the context of this thread. I am a tad on the fond side of these kids and would stop at nothing to protect them.
They can also be confusing. Take "worship" for example. I would not build a shrine to any of them and bow down to them as some sort of God. Here I am just using the adjective to indicate that I am a tad on the fond side of them.
Sometimes the only way to make sense of something written in English is to take close note of the context in which it is written - and that is even before we get into how it is spoken out loud.
English is easy when it is your native language as it is mine. Must be a total sod else. You do rather well Thomas.
