Hedge10: an experimental 10 pip target hedge trader

Post by SteveHopwood »

SERIOUS WARNING
  • Most Forex traders lose all their money.
Using the robot posted here in trading Forex does not guarantee success.
Trading this robot could lead to serious financial loss.
Trading this robot without understanding its underlying trading strategies guarantees traders will lose their money.
At best, a trading robot is only 90% as good as the manual strategy it trades. At best. At worst, it can be much less effective. If the strategy is rubbish, so is the robot.
To trade this robot, you have to understand:
    How to use EA's.
The trading system in the attached pdf

subkey sent me the attached pdf today. It looks fun, so I coded it. I doubt it has a future; those whipsaws the writer mentions happen more often then he seems to thing - nowadays at least

You cannot use this on a live account, so bung it on a demo and see if you can make it work.

:D

Hm. So if I state this in non-hedged terms, "When the price hits the daily High, place buy & sell orders X pips away from the daily High, with TP 10 pips past the entry. Same around the daily Low."

Steve, my crim has a 0.1 minimum lotsize. I specified 0.1 lotsize but I get "invalid trade volume" errors. Read the code and realized RiskPercent overrode Lot, so I set RiskPercent to 0, and then I got "invalid stops." So neither fixed Lot nor RiskPercent seem to work with 0.1 crims.

It looks like CalculateLotSize should figure the correct 0.1 minimum lotsize so I'm not sure where the problem lies.

I knocked out a quick test in Tradestation and ran it on EURUSD with the 30/40 values. I exited a position when you hit the opposite entry. I.e. I go long at YestHigh + 30, take PT at YestHigh + 40, stoploss at YestHigh - 30. I also experimented with setting the SL a fixed # of pips from the entry.

On a year of EU, it went up & down and ended down 1000 pips. I got about 83% wins, a bit lower than the 90% he claimed, but the losses were big enough to swamp out the wins. I experimented with different-sized entry and PT and with several pairs, and nothing seemed to work very reliably. USDJPY looked great with 10/20 instead of 30/40, but the average trade (before slippage/etc) was only 3.3 pips.

There might be something worthwhile here, but it will need some work.

Not entirely surprised. Needing to win 6 trades on the bounce just to cater for a loser and break even is not promising. Thanks for doing this.

I have 2 of steve's castoffs that I am currently running in this manner on penny account, one of which he was graceful enough to add hedging module , the other was designed to hedge. I can attach them over the weekend with set files or create new threads with them (again, over weekend). I have gotten a few account blown by straight martingale ... with this hedging method so far as gone for mths. I have reached up to 70% drawndown but so far ok. You would not want to trade this on anything more than a penny account or at 10cent/pip. Basically idea is 1-2+4-8+16-32+64-128 as opposed to 1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128 , again the drawn is still there, just greatly reduced.
