SERIOUS WARNING
  • Most Forex traders lose all their money.
  • Using the robot posted here in trading Forex does not guarantee success.
  • Trading this robot could lead to serious financial loss.
  • Trading this robot without understanding its underlying trading strategies guarantees traders will lose their money.
  • This is not a set-and-forget ea; there is no such thing and anyone who tries to claim there is, is either stupid or lying. This ea requires frequent manual intervention.
  • At best, a trading robot is only 90% as good as the manual strategy it trades. At best. At worst, it can be much less effective. If the strategy is rubbish, so is the robot.
  • To trade this robot, you have to understand:
    • How to use EA's.
THIS IS AN EXPERIMENTAL EA
I am using it on my live account, but read http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 862#p95862 for how I am doing so.

Intro
You can read how this EA came about at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 454#p94454 The ea is named after the system designer. The trading system could hardly be easier:
Indicators:
Triple MA, Williams % Range, OsMA

Buy Signal:
If price action breaks above the blue solid moving average line; and
Williams % Range moves above the –20 line; and
OsMA moves above the zero line.

Buy Exit Signal:
If price action breaks below the red dotted moving average line.

Sell Signal:
If price action breaks below the blue solid moving average line; and
Williams % Range moves below the –80 line; and
OsMA moves below the zero line.

Sell Exit Signal:
If price action breaks above the green dotted moving average line.
The attached template will set up your chart for you; Williams is overlaid onto OsMA and saves a bit of real estate. All the usual stuff is included, so read the attached Shell User Guide if you do not understand the inputs. Inputs for the indi's used by the system are in the 'Specific Gary Inputs' section. I suggest you just go OOTB for now until you understand what is going on a little better. This is an H4 trading system and it is not a trading trollope, so do not expect a gazillion trades.

What I have coded
Note: I have coded what I understand from the description provided to me by beorne. I might have misunderstood elements, so be prepared for corrections. Taking a buy trade as an example, here is what I have coded:
  • the low of the previous candle was below the solid blue line.
  • the market is now above the solid blue line
  • Williams is > -20
  • OsMA is > 0
Vice-versa for a sell, with Willams < -80.

Intuition
Gary has stated that he uses his own intuition when trading. Intuition cannot be coded into an ea. He has offered to share his intuitive thoughts to see what can be coded. It could be that the ea is best used to send an alert when trading conditions are met (SendAlertNotTrade input) and traders can then decide for themselves whether to pull the trigger or not. We shall see.

Update on 27th July: please read this post at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 584#p96584 and the one that follows it.

Yup. Me. I put it on my live GP account. I will post results over the weekend. They are promising and I have some more observations to make.

I have been surprised by this ea.

Here are the trades on my GP live account, arranged in descending order of profitability:
By profit.gif
I have been through the losers. The GU were whipsaws around the TMA. One was a news-inspired spike that closed the trade when the market made a brief move against the trade, then resumed in what would have been its direction had the trade not closed.

I added Bob's H4 240 trend-detection moving average and saw that most of the rest of the losers occurred when the trades were taken against the trend, so the filter would have saved a fair few pips. It would have prevented a couple of winning trades as well, but no filter is 100% right.

I had seen on demo that the ea without the H4 MA would build up a position with several trades and a magnificent position profit. Then markets would move in the opposite direction and previously profitable trades would close at a loss. Few reached their 100 take profit.

I decided not to let this happen on my live account, so I have mptm set up with a global closure at 5% enabled. All these trades were taken before I enabled the H4 MA filter, so the losers gradually closed out and I was left eventually with the group of profitable trades that closed within a few seconds when the upl hit 6% - I could see the basket going in my favour so I bumped up the percentage to ensure I ended the exercise in profit. I have looked at these trades as well; I left a few pips on the table at 6%, but I don't care.

Here are the trades in order of close time:
By close time.gif
Early days, but it looks as though using Gary as a basket trader might be the way to go. I am hoping that Bob's trend filter will keep me out of trades in the wrong direction and that the basket will hit 5% without first closing so many losers. We shall see.

BIG, BIG, BIG, BIG THINGY. If mptm or Paul's mbtm closes the position and Gary recognises a trading setup and finds there is no open trade, it will send one. To counter this, you MUST set MinMinutesBetweenTrades so that an instant re-trade is impossible. I have mine set to 240.

Subsequent edit:
I have attached a zip of my profile so you guys can set one up quickly and easily. This is a Global Prime profile, so no idea whether it will work on other brokers' platforms.

I read the conditions of trades but it is easier for me to visualize it if I see it on a screen. Is it possible to show on a screen the conditions of the trade?

Here you are Bob. Large red arrow marks the candle when the trade was taken.

  • Market below your H4 240 MA.
  • Market had punched down through the lowest MA.
  • Williams < -80
  • OsMA < 0

V 1a is in post 1. I do not like this trade:
chfjpyh4.png
The market is > the TMA only because of a sharp upward spike. I expect this trade to be a loser but am leaving it alone to see what happens.

V 1a has the addition that if you are using bob's H4 240 MA trend filter: the lower MA must be above Bob's filter for a buy; the upper MA must be below it for a sell.
